Joyful Fruitiness

Rantings of an omnipotent fruit…

They’re back….

“Cicadas to invade Chicago”

I can tolerate most bugs, except one kind…cicadas. I was ten years old when I first ran into them 17 years ago and it wasn’t pleasant. One flew into my hair (near my ear) and got stuck. Let’s just say, I ran around like a lunatic, screaming and crying. Mom begrudgingly had to get the scissors and cut it out. Luckily back then I lived within the city and didn’t have deal with them everyday (only when I had to to the suburbs). Sadly, now I’m a suburbanite and will have to deal with them 24-7…hmm perhaps I should move. Since I live in a new development, I’m hoping that only few will pop up near my house and not the swarm I experienced back then. Unfortunately, I work near a forest preserve with lots of trees… Anyways, I guess I should be prepared. For example, like wearing a scarf on my head (don’t want a repeat 17 years ago) and save extra cash on car washes.

Then, there are the Cicada freaks… They have their annual feasting of the bugs and some even sing songs of the event:

Hehe, it’s really a catchy song and I have tasted the critters on a dare (triple dog dare…puked it all out afterwards). Although, now that I’m older (and hopefully a bit wiser), I won’t be dinning on cicada cuisine this time.
